Training hard at Khongsittha Muay Thai means your rest days matter just as much as your sessions.
Whether your body is calling for recovery, your mind needs a reset, or you’re simply craving a bit of adventure, Bangkok and its surroundings offer endless ways to make the most of your time off.
You might choose to unwind with a traditional Thai massage, explore vibrant local markets, or escape the city altogether for a beach day or nature-filled retreat just a few hours away. On a day off, light activity can help with recovery without adding stress to the body.
This guide is designed to give our students the perfect mix of recovery, exploration, and inspiration without having to travel far from the training camp.
Whether you’re here for a short visit or a longer stay, these day-off ideas will help you experience more of Thailand while still supporting your journey in the gym.

Take a day trip to Ayutthaya
Did you know Thailand was once home to the Kingdom of Ayutthaya, widely regarded as one of the wealthiest and most magnificent cities in the East between the 14th and 18th centuries? Across 7 dynasties, 35 kings ruled this thriving empire.
Ayyutthaya is situated in the rich rice plains of the Chao Phraya River basin, about 55 miles (90 km) north of present-day Bangkok. Today, its archaeological wonders remain beautifully preserved, offering a rare glimpse into its extraordinary past.
Here, a sense of awe naturally takes over as you wander through ancient temple ruins, grand palaces, sacred religious sites, and striking monuments. Walking among the preserved architecture, it’s easy to imagine the lives once lived here, where Siamese royalty and palace workers once walked these very grounds.
It’s a deeply enriching experience, one that reveals a powerful chapter of Thailand’s heritage, often overlooked by many passing travellers.
What To Do:
There are a number of historical sites, temple grounds, markets, and local food spots to explore.
- Wat Mahathat & Wat Phra Ram (Ayyuthaya Historical Park)
- Wat Phra Si Sanphet (The Grand Palace)
- Wat Lokayasutharam
- Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon
- Wat Ratchaburana
- Ayyuthaya Floating Market
Make sure you order the famous traditional Guay Tiew Reua or boat noodles for lunch, and enjoy Roti Sai Mai, a traditional sweet snack for dessert!
How To Get There:
From Khongsittha Muay Thai, Ayutthaya is around 1–1.5 hours away, depending on traffic.
The easiest option is to book a Grab car for a direct and comfortable trip.
For a more local experience, you can take a train from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal straight to Ayutthaya. Trains are cheap and reliable, and they take around 1–2 hours.
Once there, you can hire a tuk-tuk or rent a bicycle to explore the city.
When To Go:
The best time to visit is early morning to avoid both the heat and the crowds.
Aim to leave Bangkok around 7:00 am, so you arrive before peak tourist hours.

Check out the Liabduan Danneramit Night Market
Bangkok is famous for its outdoor night markets, and our training camp is located close to several local markets. One that stands out as a favourite among locals is the Liabduan Danneramit Night Market in Lad Phrao.
This market area recently opened in May 2025 and offers a mix of local food stalls, shops, and live entertainment. It’s a great option if you want cheap street eats and a chance to play some fun games.
Previously, this area was home to a theme park that opened in 1976; today, the iconic Danneramit theme park castle still stands in the same location. In fact, the Jodd Fairs Night Market originally opened in this same spot.
Open daily from 4:00 pm to midnight.

Thrift Shop at The Red Building in Chatuchak
The Red Building, also known as Bang Sue Junction, is a fantastic place for thrift shopping!
While Chatuchak Market is known for its sprawling outdoor maze of stalls, the Red Building is a multi-level, air-conditioned space dedicated to vintage finds, antiques, and curated second-hand pieces.
This is a great place to find gym clothes, sports gear, jackets, and bags, all at very affordable prices. Some of the authentic vintage items are priced higher, so definitely look around to find a bargain.
Bring cash and small change, as many items are around 100 baht. There is a food court on the top floor if you want to relax and have lunch with a view.
Open from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm Monday to Friday and 10:00 am to 10:00 pm on weekends.

Watch the Muay Thai fights at the best stadiums in Bangkok!
Bangkok is one of the only cities in the world where you can watch live Muay Thai every single night of the week across different levels—from world-class stadium fights to raw gym interclubs. For students training at Khongsittha, watching live fights is one of the most valuable and memorable things you can do on a day off.
For most visitors, Rajadamnern is the easiest and most accessible place to start. It runs fights almost every night and blends traditional Muay Thai with more modern, entertainment-focused events. Saturday nights feature the Rajadamnern World Series, and tickets sell out fast!
Next is Lumpinee, known for hosting some of the highest-level fights in the country. It is home to major international promotions, including ONE Championship.
Smaller promotions also play an important role in the Bangkok fight scene. Check out the new and exciting event, Siam Real Combat, every Tuesday night at Siam World Stadium. Many of our students have been promoted on this card, and it’s a great place to watch both Thai and foreign fighters.
Watching fights in Bangkok is more than just entertainment. It is an extension of your training, a way to understand timing, scoring, and fight IQ, and an opportunity to connect more deeply with Muay Thai culture.

Recover with a Traditional Thai Massage
Traditional Thai massage is an important part of recovery in Thailand, especially for Muay Thai fighters who train daily and place constant stress on their bodies. To manage long training sessions, twice per day, six days per week, students must equally focus on rest and active recovery in order to prevent physical injuries and mental fatigue.
In Thailand, massage is known as Nuad Thai, or traditional Thai massage, a centuries-old healing practice. It is common for the massage therapist to apply pressure along the body’s energy lines, often referred to as Sen lines, while moving the body into different positions.
The Sen lines are very important because they are considered the pathways through which energy flows within the body. The concept dates back over 2,000 years and is part of traditional Thai medicine, which incorporates practices such as herbal remedies, diet, meditation, and massage therapy to support overall health and well-being.
Regular massage treatments are highly effective for relieving muscle tension and soreness. Students who prioritise massage as part of their recovery can reduce feelings of heaviness or fatigue in the body.
A great option near the gym is Phattra Massage. Book in advance as spots sell out fast, especially on weekends!

Spend a day at Central Festival Eastville Shopping Mall
Just a quick 10-minute drive from the gym is Central Festival Eastville.
If you are looking for a place to spend a few hours, this is a great option to escape the heat. This mall features over 200 shops and more than 100 restaurants with a mix of Thai and International cuisine.
There are both open-air dining areas and indoor options with a modern cinema, large entertainment zones, an arcade and Laser Tag!
The Central Food Hall is packed with delicious, affordable menu options, with plenty of healthy choices.
For active recovery, you can find a rooftop track called Sky Run with options for walking, jogging, and running. If you prefer to relax, there are several day spas and hair salons. Another great option is to simply find a cafe and enjoy a coffee.
Open daily, from 10:30 am to 10:00 pm on weekdays and 10:00 am to 10:00 pm on weekends.

Take a swing at the Kiatthada Driving Range
For something a little more active on a recovery day, a visit to the nearby Kiatthada Golf Range is the perfect way to spend a few hours away from the gym.
The range is just a short 10-minute walk from the camp, and the newly renovated facility spans over 16,000 square meters. The area offers visitors a casual atmosphere where all skill levels can practice.
What is a driving range? A driving range is a place where people go to practice golf by hitting balls over an open field, rather than playing a full course. The goal isn’t to win but simply to practice your swing, timing, and technique.
Is it good for active recovery? In general, the driving range can be a low-impact option, with 50-70% energy input and less focus on power. Use this time to relax and bring some friends to enjoy the sport’s social aspect.
The range is open daily from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm, with new lighting to support late-night sessions.

Relax at the Kiatthada Resort
Although there are many ways to spend the day off from training, sometimes the best way to recover is to stay home and rest.
At Khongsittha Muay Thai, students can book private on-site accommodation at Kiatthada Resort. With over 70 private rooms, located just a few minutes’ walk from the gym, this is the perfect place to stay and train during your time in Bangkok.
On recovery days, many of our students prefer to spend time relaxing at the resort and making the most of their recovery day, but catching up on errands, sleeping, and ordering food. Students can work or study from the comfort of the room with complimentary WiFi.
All rooms include hot water, ensuite bathrooms, a small fridge, a TV, and Air Conditioning.
